Senator Caesar Trunzo (R – Brentwood) has secured funding for an Anti-Crime Task Force aimed at reducing criminal activity in North Bellport.
Currently in its fourth year of service, the Bellport Task Force, secured from the Federal Government by Senator Trunzo, will be completely funded for an upcoming fifth year, beginning October 1, by the $100,000 in federal pass-through monies from the Byrne Justice Agreement Grant Program. This task force brings together a multitude of law enforcement agencies to prevent, detect, deter and reduce crime committed by repeat offenders in the Bellport vicinity. Agencies in the task force include the Suffolk County Police Department’s Fifth Precinct, the Probation Office, the District Attorney’s Office and the Sheriff’s Office.
“I am very pleased that the County has authorized the use of these funds that I provided to fight gang and drug abuse activities in North Bellport,” said Senator Trunzo. “When I first became aware that these funds were available, I consulted with the Suffolk Police on where it could be used most effectively. I then secured the money for targeted anti-crime efforts in the North Bellport area. This has been a multi-year partnership with the police to increase the quality of life in North Bellport.”
